About the company.
About UPPWhat does Urban Pet Products do?
UPP is an Australian pet distributor. We keep a tight range of pet products and place them with Australian retail partners across pet specialty, lifestyle and online.
Where is UPP based?
UPP is a Western Australian business. The registered office is in Fremantle, and trade and operations run out of Waikiki, WA.
When was UPP founded?
2016. UPP was co-founded by Ken MacCormick and Mary Macpherson, who still run the business as Directors.
Who runs UPP?
UPP is founder-led. Ken MacCormick (Director) leads commercial, logistics, supplier agreements, and supply chain. Mary Macpherson (Director) leads sales, process, customer relationships, and operational coordination. Both have been in the business since day one.
What is UPP's legal trading entity?
Urban Pet Products Pty Ltd. ABN 39 611 971 530.
How is UPP different from other Australian pet distributors?
We keep the range tight. We don't stock everything. We stock what fits. The range is focused on cat care, automated cat care, smart feeding and hydration, and a small specialty selection, and we know those categories well.
What categories does UPP specialise in?
Premium cat care, automated cat care, and smart feeding and hydration. The range is chosen to lift the better end of a retailer's pet category, not to compete on commodity.
Does UPP operate consumer storefronts?
Yes. We operate Cat Evolution, a direct-to-consumer storefront selling selected products from the range. It works as a listening post for the wholesale side of the business. What customers buy, review, and ask for informs the recommendations we make.
For trade buyers.
For Australian RetailersWho can open a trade account with UPP?
Australian retailers operating in pet specialty, lifestyle, homewares, or online. We work with independents through to chains. The first step is a 15-minute call to assess fit on both sides.
Is there a minimum first order?
No. UPP trade accounts have no minimum first order. We build the first order around the products that best fit your channel.
What are the payment terms?
Standard trade terms are 30 days. Specific accounts may negotiate alternative terms once volume and history are established.
How long does onboarding take?
Most retailers are live within 14 days of the discovery call. That includes range planning, account setup, initial order, and staff sell-in resources.
Do you provide sample stock?
Yes. Sample stock is available for retailers who want to assess products before placing the first order. Specific terms confirmed during the discovery call.
Do you provide staff training?
Yes. Product education, merchandising guidance, and brand storytelling resources are part of standard onboarding. Particularly useful for automated cat care, where customers ask detailed questions on the floor.
What channels does UPP supply?
Pet specialty (independents and chains), lifestyle retail, and online marketplaces around Australia.
What does it cost to open a trade account?
Nothing. Opening a trade account is free. Standard terms are 30 days from invoice, no minimum first order, and sample stock available on request.
What hours is the UPP team available?
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Australian Western Standard Time. Trade enquiries are typically answered within one business day.
Can I stock UPP brands without a trade account?
No. All UPP-distributed brands are supplied through verified trade accounts only. This protects pricing, brand positioning, and retailer margin across the range.
For brands considering Australia.
For International Brand PartnersWhat categories of brand does UPP take on?
Cat care (litter and food), automated cat care, smart feeding and hydration, and select specialty pet products. We don't distribute treats or commodity accessories.
How do I pitch my brand to UPP?
A first call. Send a product overview, the international markets you're currently active in, and your Australian ambition. We schedule a 30-minute conversation to assess fit and walk through the opportunity.
Does UPP take on exclusive distribution?
We work both exclusive and non-exclusive arrangements. Exclusive distribution is typical for the brands UPP places across multiple channels. Specific commercials are agreed brand by brand.
How long does the typical brand onboarding take?
From first conversation to in-market is typically 90 to 180 days. The time variable is regulatory and logistics, not commercial negotiation. Brands arriving with Australian-compliant packaging, labelling, and electrical certification move fastest.
Does UPP provide market feedback to brand partners?
Yes. Real consumer feedback from our own pet storefronts, sell-through from retail partners, and Australian-specific consumer behaviour. This informs product iteration, range planning, and pricing.
Does UPP handle marketing for the brands it distributes?
We handle trade marketing, buyer education, merchandising, and channel-specific brand stewardship. Consumer marketing is typically a brand-led investment with UPP-supported execution in Australia. Specific arrangements vary by brand.
What's the minimum commitment from a brand partner?
We typically agree initial terms of 12 to 24 months, with renewal triggers based on performance milestones. We're selective about which brands we take on. The expectation is a multi-year build.
Does UPP work outside Australia?
UPP is Australian-focused. We do not operate as a multi-territory distributor.
